3\10\11 : Hey! This is Mariah (Mayah- they cannot say Ma-RY-ah)! We had an eventful day today, as im sure you can imagine,from the others` blogs. Today we tried out somewhere new to serve. We took a bumpy, but quick, drive to a church and we had a backyard bible school. ( mini- VBS). As we walked into the church we noticed how beautiful rustic-looking church. We looked around for a while and we noticed that there wasn`t much space to act "crazy" with the kids! So, the pastor, Pastor Judd, walked us down to the basement. The basement was divided into large sections, almost like large cubicles. It worked out perfectly for our plan to teach Bible stories, have arts and crafts, and also play various 'Crenglish' (Creole\ English) games! We had SOOOOOO much fun! We taught the kids: Head, shoulders, knees and toes; God is so good; and attempted Simon says-its was tough. Haha. Some of the kids had uniforms on, which were precious!( check out the pics). We stayed there for about three hours. After we left, we came home and had some grub. Speaking of which, was ALWAYS delicious!- Sorry mom, your food is still the best. ;) Then, we packed up, loaded into the bed of the truck( our main form of transportation) and headed for a smaller tent 'neighborhood'. As we were driving through, we passed MANY beautiful, smiling faces. We were excited; they seemed so kind! We unloaded the truck into a quite well made tent- may have to look into that next time our family goes camping. Before we could even have everything set up in the tent, there was a crowd outside\ in the front of our tent. The pushing crowd passed up the infants and toddlers. That was kind of cool to see them decide to do that. We gave out nearly all of the clothes. As you can suspect, it got a little out of hand( everyone was fine) But, there was obviously just a dire need for clothes, toys, and shoes. So, we decided to leave. It was overall a very successful trip to the tent city. Also, God was able to speak through some of us to encourage some of the residents. We were all happy to be able to be a vessels for God`s work. After the rather intense hoo-rah, we came home, relaxed and took showers. This was a blessing, considering the shower situation at the youth camp. ( the rain) haha! I`m sorry we got behind on our blogging! We will see you all soon! Please pray for our safety. I hope that you have felt as a part of our mission trip as we have been thinking of you all. 3\11\11 : Hey guys! This is Erica writing from Haiti (ayiti)! I just wanted to give you a little update on the our last day here in P-a-p. Yesterday morning and this morning we taught some kids bible stories at a church here in Pap. They were such beautiful kids and I'm pretty sure we all fell in love with them! After teaching and acting out the bible stories we played frisbee and soccer and colored with the younger kids. We were able to fit in a little shopping today. We drove up a mountain ( 6 inside the truck and 7 in the bed of the truck) It was pretty fun! At the top of the mountain, we were able to take some amazing pictures at a beautiful view point. The shopping happened right there, at the top of the mountain. We had to pull out our inner bargaining skills to make sure that us, " whities" weren`t going be ripped off. Then, we went out for some Haitian ice cream and had some good bonding time. It was interesting to see the different statuses in the small area of Haiti that we have seen. Once we got home for the evening, we met another team that came in today, they all seemed very nice! We all feel truly blessed for our experience in Haiti and feel honored to witness God at His best work. Tomorrow- off to U.S.A. God Bless! Erica

Unconfessed Bitterness

Bonswa from Haiti! Today God turned what seemed like an ordinary day into an incredibly spiritual night.

When we first arrived to our guest house in Haiti we learned that two Canadian pilots would be staying with us as well. Little did we know they would change our outlooks as well as our lives for ever.

Today we arrived back at the guest house after spending the past three days at a church retreat in the beautiful Haitian mountains. We spent the day planning, resting, and debriefing the trip this far. After dinner Rick, one of the pilots, approached us after dinner and asked if we could have a small worship service tonight... in all honesty what happened tonight can't be put into words. After singing three songs Rick stopped us and said that he felt the Holy spirit leading him to speak to us about a certain topic, he also said that the Lord was telling him more than one person in the group would benefit from the topic.

Rick spoke to us about forgiveness, but more specifically the forgiveness of unconfessed bitterness and resentment for our parents. As he revealed to us the topic of his talk my mouth dropped... normally I do a great job of shutting off thoughts and focusing on one particular thing, I'm in Haiti serving others therefore I was solely focusing on that and nothing else; however, literally minutes before worship began I had a strange feeling come over me, I started thinking about my family and the different obstacles we are facing and have faced and like any normal human the feelings of bitterness and frustration began to build. As the talk began one by one everyone in the group opened up and shared their story, it was truly amazing to see how everyone's story related.

God is a very mighty, powerful, creative, and all knowing father, he created each and every one of us in this guest house for this very moment. We all now share a bond and will forever carry a piece of each other with us in our hearts. Though we may never see each other again on this Earth we have created an eternal family. Tonight many hearts were broken and then repaired by the Lord himself. We let go of a lot of negative feelings that for some of us have been growing for years. Tonight was an awesome experience that none of us will soon forget. I would like to ask for those of you reading this blog to say a small prayer of thanksgiving and encouragement over us as a team. Confessing and releasing bitter feelings is only one part of the process, we now have to abstain from falling back into our old ways of resentment and anger. We've already given it to God but now we have to leave it there and move on.

Youth Camp

Hey everyone!

This is Emily Johnson. So the group just got back from helping out with a youth camp about two hours away from Greg's house. It was a blast. The church has this camp every year during Carnival to help keep the kids away from the craziness in the cities. There were about 80 students there ranging from the ages of 13-30. The term youth pretty much means anyone who is single. It was really fun for everyone getting to know the students, playing soccer and basketball, and exchanging Creole and English vocabulary. The days were pretty laid back and included some activities, sermons, devotionals, worship, and breakouts. Erica and Nathan led separate girls and boys breakouts and Justin spoke during a morning devotional. Everyone led so well and did such a good job of breaking out of their comfort zones. Yesterday was personally my favorite day. We went on a hike to a beautiful lake and sang some worship songs. Then, later that night we went to a sadie hawking type of thing where the girls ask the guys. Many of the Americans even had Haitian dates! It was really fun. One thing about Haitian culture is that everyone dresses SUPER nice for church, even for each sermon in the camp. As we only packed tshirts and shorts, we always felt out of place and underdressed. So last night for the dance, we all decided to make dresses out of our bedsheets, and Mariah helped style them all so well that NOONE could even tell they were't real dresses. The camp offered some new experiences for the team that i believe made us all appreciate our luxuries back in the U.S., like showering in the rain or using a bucket, sleeping on concrete, and 2 hour bumpy rides in the back of a tap tap. The team has been awesome and we are so excited that it's only half way over. Greg said we will be working with kids for the rest of the week, so someone will blog later on to keep you guys updated. We Have Arrived!!!

We have arrived safely! Haiti is a beautiful country and the people here are wonderful! Getting off the plane went smoothly and our host's team was waiting for us at the door! They have been taking great care of our group and we just finished a delicious taco dinner (very spicy)and home made french fries! We had a very fun and interesting truck ride to the hotel, but the place we are staying at is extremely beautiful! There are several little kiddos running around the hotel who are absolutely precious! Tomorrow morning we will be taking a two hour truck ride to the top of the mountain where we will be assisting a youth camp! The youth camp ranges from 13 to 30 years old. We will be playing basketball, soccer, playing with all of the kids, leading breakout bible studies, and assisting in leading worship! There is no internet at the top of the mountain, so this will be the only update until Wednesday evening. The internet is very slow, so we won't be able to host pictures online until we return. In the meantime, google "Jeremy Cowart Voices of Haiti to see pictures and videos of Haiti to help you grasp what's happened here.

So I quickly shot a video for my friend and for some reason the colors and gain levels were different from the 2 panasonic HVX200 cameras I used. So, with the help of three way color corrector in Final Cut Pro and an eight point garbage matte I was able to somewhat correct the mistake. I spent a little less than an hour on this whole project. Obviously the colors between the two aren't perfect but it was much better compared to the original... Oh....I'm also color blind, so cut me some slack ;-)

I have not blogged in quite some time, so I thought with the release of my "latest movie" I would talk a little bit about it.

For my TV Production class we were assigned the task of creating a story with no dialogue, filming it, and editing it.

The movie is called "The Secret" and it is about a man who is in love with his wife, but becomes very secretive about what he is doing upstairs in his office. After dinner he transfers information onto a disc, while being secretly watched from outside. The viewer never knows what is going on or who these people watching are. The men watching outside want the disc and decide to...

Sometimes it will recognize a face and ask if it is a certain person. Sometimes it will not recognize anything at all. Sometimes it does this.

Personally, I have always wanted my iCal in my menu bar...why?

1. When I am in class I don't want many programs open to save on battery.

2. Dashboard uses a lot of battery power and ram memory, so when I just want to look at dates I can use this add-on instead of opening dashboard every time.

3. I want a quick key to jump to my calendar.

There are other reasons, but I will let you discover them on your own.

Check out this menu bar add-on if you are like me and don't want to deal with numbers 1-3.
1. It syncs with your iCal.
2. Has a Hot Key.
3. Customizable icon.
4. Can show upcoming events and your ToDo list.

iPhoto Tweak

In the new version of iPhoto that comes along with iLife '08 you have events, which are created when you import pictures.

A default image will be selected as a thumbnail for that event, but if you do not like it you simply move your cursor across the event until it shows the picture you want.

Once you have the picture you want, simply click the space bar and it will reset the thumbnail with what your cursor has selected.

Microsoft Word Notebook

Wow!
In class today, Canaan Chapman showed me something very interesting.

If you own Microsoft Word then you should be able to open the program and when the wizard pops up click "New Word Notebook"

We went over our last test and I wanted to record the teacher to prepare for our Final Exam.
--In this program you can use a microphone to record the audio and make notes at the same time on a sheet of notebook paper (This is the design of the template).

Now, what is even cooler is later on when you review the document, where ever you typed a note there is an audio icon next to it.
----When you click the audio icon it jumps a few seconds before where you started typing in the recorded audio.

Ok, so I have not posted anything in awhile so here it goes.

Terminal

You can go here for some really cool terminal commands.

I personally like telling my computer to display "Crutch Rocks" when I sign on, a 2-d dock, different menu options for different programs, and much more.

iTunes
When you press Command L it will jump to whatever song is playing.
When you press Command R it will open the selected song in Finder.

iCal
When you hold shift and click the plus sign (add new calendar) it will create a new calendar group.

You can check out more shortcuts in the applications help section.

Adium

So I have recently come across a new program called Adium that is a lot like iChat but I think it is a lot better and here is why...

1. I can connect my AIM chat, Facebook chat, MySpace chat, Google Chat, and much more into this one program.

2. You can customize the way it looks with hundreds of themes.

3. It has a spell check.

4. You can also pick from several audio themes.

5. It groups all of your conversations into tabs (similar to Firefox), so that you don't have 15 windows open and you can also close each tab with the shortcut "Command W."

On Friday, me and some of my friends jumped in the van
and left for Rock Island

Ater gathering wood (with no axe) and cooking dinner (with no flame cause everyone told me to let it go down - I cook on smoker grills) we made s'mores.
Later on that night we went down to the river (Caney Fork) and walked around on the rocks.
The next morning we did the same, but this time we could actually see.

We spent most of our time jumping from rock to rock exploring.

The trip was a lot of fun and a really great way to end the weekend!
Today I will be having a birthday lunch with my family, so I guess it's not over yet!

My 21st Birthday!

So, yesterday was my 21st birthday and it rocked! At 12:00 a.m Erica gave me her present which was the second season of Heros and a card that she made from scratch!

The next morning I had a full day ahead of me, when I had to go to the DMV at 8 in the morning to get my license renewed. The computers were really slow, but it really didn't take too long. On top of that, I had to spend the rest of my day in classes. Literally ALL DAY. With over 20 people texting me to tell me "Happy Birthday!" it helped make up for those things.

When we got to Erica's house her family surprised me with the first season of Heros. If you haven't caught on...I love Heros.

At 7:30 we went and ate dinner at Red Robin, where Erica got Jonathan to get all of my friends together for a surprise birthday dinner!

This was my Birthday Cake!

After dinner we all ended up inventing balloon games...somehow.

Then we figured out how to defy gravity...

I don't know what I am doing here...

Anyways, this was the best birthday I have ever had. I had over 40 people tell me happy birthday, spent it with the people I love most, and I have never laughed so hard in one night!

Tonight (Friday the 12th) we are going to Rock Island to camp out!

Snapping Turtle

So, I was on the way home from working out today and in the middle of the road was something huge. I turned around and went back to see what it was. It turned out to be a huge turtle in the middle of the road. I didn't want him or her to get ran over so I took it over to the grass. When I picked it up it kept trying to jump out of my hands and it also tried to turn his head and bite me.

A guy stopped and said I was a good man. I guess the turtle thought differently...you know since it tried to kill me!

I personally use Hotlink Files, because of the many different codes it gives you to post to message boards, blogs, and so on and it is FREE! Also, your files can't be searched for and can't be downloaded. This is good when the song is not yours and used for streaming only.

* volume="75" is what I like to set the volume at. Feel free to edit this.
* kioskmode="true" means that there will be no drop down menu on the player for users to download this file. Again, this is good for streaming purposes only.
* autostart="false" means that the audio will not automatically begin playing when loaded.

* height & width as you can imagine is the height and width for the player.

Change true to false or false to true if you would like to invert any of these options.
Example
autostart="fasle" (Player doesn't start automatically)
autostart="true" (Means it will)

You should have something like this if you enter the code exactly as I have it.

Erica & I celebrated 3 months together this past Saturday and Sunday!
On Saturday she took me to the Nashville Zoo and it was awesome!

On Sunday, I spent most of the day preparing my gift for her.
We had Caesar Salad, Fruit & Vegetables, & Lasagna!

After dinner, we got into the car and I drove her to the back of my house where I had setup a drive in movie with the notebook playing.

All in all it was a wonderful weekend!

Dave Hunt & The Band

We had over 370 students on campus this past Wednesday night! Dave Hunt and the band led worship and Adam Robinson spoke that night. It was amazing to see students move in worship like they did. It's a joy and privilege that I have to serve on the student ministry team each week.

The Saddest Day

One Chance
We found out about 6 months ago that my dog Chance had 4 months to live, because she was diagnosed with a tumor that would soon take over her life.

I would say that I found Chance at an early age, but instead she found us. I used to ride my bike while my mom ran down our road and dogs would always try to follow us back home. We would always shew them away, but when Chance followed us she would not go away. She was tired, dehydrated, and nothing but skin and bones. I was able to feed her and my parents decided to let me keep her. They would normally tell me no, but for some reason they said yes to this one.

I have lots of memories about Chance and for anyone who knows me, my memory is not too good. I remember when she ripped up this foam mattress in the garage in a thousand pieces and it took forever to clean up...puppy years. I remember when coyotes snuck up on her and bit her once and tried to sneak up on her again. She loved to chase mice, birds, toys, and anything else moving. She was definitely the smartest dog that I have ever known or had.

I don't see my dad cry often and never before over a DOG, but seeing him cry over chance really made me think of how special she was. He told Erica, as we were driving to go to the vet, that normally he doesn't let dogs get to him like this, but Chance was something special. Seeing his and my mom's emotions just helped me realize even more that Chance was more than just a dog.

The doctor told us that the tumor had spread even farther, that she was dehydrated now, and that it was time. He said we would not want to see her through the rest of this for she would suffer and was already beginning to. I stayed with her, so that I would be the last image she saw before she left this world. At that moment is when I began wondering if dogs or animals go to heaven? I looked at a few websites, but the bible is pretty much silent on the matter.

As I walked out of the vet with her wrapped in a blue cloth it was as if it was in slow motion. Out of the corner of my eye I could see the nurses crying and hearing them all say "I am so sorry." I carried her in one way and out another way.

Evangelist or Obedient?

My mom likes to bury our dogs at this pet cemetary in Gallitin and I never really understood why until now. Some people might say it's weird to do that or being over obsessive, but I don't see why. You love your pet with the same heart that you love a human being with. Yes they have four legs and a different anatomy, but they still have eyes, a nose, and a heart that beats just like yours. Chance was always there for me to cheer me up just by wagging her tail, running to my lap, and simply being there. She watched me grow up as I watched her grow up.

When we got to the cemetary this older man that works there talked to me and Erica about Jesus. It was really strange at first and hard to figure out where he was going with his words, but in the end we all realized that he doesn't know us and is going off of what other students my age are doing and he was simply trying to witness to us. He kept telling us to put God first in everything we do.

To sum everything up
Chance came to us as a tired, dehydrated, skin and bones dog and left us just the same. So many people come into this world tired, not knowing Christ, and are thirsty (dehyrdrated) and leave just the same.

I didn't realize how special Chance was to me until she was nearly gone. You don't realize how much you miss or love something until he or she is lying on their death bed or they have already passed. There are so many people in this world who do not know Christ and who will leave not knowing Christ, because of the simple fact that no one reached into their lives and showed the glory of God. Pat Hood says that "life is a mission." The man who works at the pet cemetery is a prime example of how we should lead our lives. He meets strange people every week and I am thankful for his obedient soul and serving heart.

I wish Chance was still here wagging her tail, but I know that her body will return to the earth from which it was created and her spirit will return to its creator: Ecclesiastes 12:7.
So whether or not there is a "dog heaven" I know that everything is in God's hands and that this has helped me to realize that everything can be wonderful one minute and the next something completely different, so I should live my life as if I have one chance at everything I do. One chance to witness to that stranger, one chance to love on my enemies, one chance to live my life for Christ.

Last few weeks...

Wow, the last few weeks have been crazy at work. Renovations in the Soul Station wing and Creation Celebration had some changes and now we are starting a new series called Dare U to Move, which we have ben setting up for all week. The stage is looking great with a lot of new things added to spice it up. Lighting is almost done with some cool effects that Alec and I worked on. We also have a few videos that will be pretty funny.

Now, I am not sure if someone was so happy about this new series that they decided to jump up and down on the Toliet or if it really was Chuck Norris...not to be confused with the "strongest guy on staff."

Interesting Add-Ons

So I have recently downloaded a few new Firefox add-ons that have made my life easier.

1. Yoono - This works in the sidebar of your browser. You are able to connect to Facebook, Twitter, Gtalk, Aim, Mail, and many other applications all at once. Whenever there is a Twitter update or new comments, you will have a notification that will fade away after a few seconds.
2. Pic Lens is really cool if you enjoy viewing photos and videos on the web. Click on the icon and it opens up as if it was created by apple. Scroll over your mouse pad, zoom in and out, and surf the web in a way like never before. Also, if you are surfing the web like normal and you come across a picture, video, or album you can click a small play sign that will open these things in pic lens.
3. Themes - Firefox has many different themes that may suit your lifestyle better.
4. Fast Video Download is amazing for downloading any video on the web as a flash file. If you like a certain video on Youtube just download this add-on and with the click of a button that file will be saved onto your computer. A FLV player will be required to download to view these files. You can download one here.
5. Forecast Fox - Is displayed in the bottom section of your browser that displays the current weather and temperature along with the next two days. If there are any alerts in your area, you will be notified through this.
6. Password Exporter - I personally use a master password, which allows me to type in one password (when I access a site that I have my username and password saved) and all of these type of sites will have my username and password saved. If you choose cancel in the master password box then none of the sites will remember your username or password. It is very safe and makes it easy to browse my favorite sites.
7. URL Fixer - If I accidently type in www.youtube.con or something similar then URL fixer will automatically correct my mistake.

If you wish to try some or one of these out, just click on tools in your firefox browser and add-ons. Then search for them.

First Blog & First Entry

For the most part I will be keeping these things short and sweet, cause I know many of you hate reading long blogs.

For my first entry I decided to post about how amazing my co-workers are. I am currently the "senior" production intern at fbcsmyrna and I love it! Each week I take part in helping prepare for Sunday morning services from cleaning the shop area and stage to editing videos, producing, and basically helping to create an atmosphere for people to come in and worship and learn more about their creator. I also serve on our amazing student ministry team doing things very similar. Our whole staff is awesome and a pleasure to work with.

I say all that to help you get an idea of what my job is like and to show you a promo that Micah and I sat down on Thursday and put together with many creative ideas from out worship programming department and the beautiful voices of our staff! Hope you all enjoy!
